Ruth Peel Kucharsey, age 96, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Christiana Hospital. She was born on February 1, 1916 to the late Archie L. and Mary (McCormick) Peel.
Ruth worked as an Administrative Assistant at DuPont and the University of Delaware, and ended her work career with 20 years of administrative service at the Newark School District. She also worked as an aide to her father, State Representative, Archie L. Peel in the 1930’s. She graduated from the Women’s College, University of Delaware in 1943. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club at the University of Delaware, Agricultural Services. Ruth enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, cooking and baking. Ruth was always kind, caring and giving and never expected anything in return.
She is survived by her daughters, Tamar Smith and her husband, Edward Kepka of Newark, DE and Tacie Connelly and her husband, Kevin of Elkton, MD. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Martin Smith, Mark Connelly and his wife, Jackie, Eric Connelly and Andrew Connelly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Stephen J. Kucharsey; by her brothers, Adelbert, Archie, Joseph and Wallace Peel; and son in law, Martin R. Smith.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012 at R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Hospital Foundation, c/o the funeral home.
