Richard Joseph McGuire, 62, died unexpectedly in Newark Delaware, Tuesday, June 19, 2012.
Richard was born August 10, 1949 in Upper Darby, PA, the son of Charlotte H. and the late Joe F. McGuire. He was a 1967 graduate of Christiana High School, Newark and later was a cryptographer in the United States Air Force, receiving top honors in every class he participated in.
Richard had a great radio voice and had worked at every radio station in Wilmington and Newark, from the mid-1960’s to 1995. He also worked at WJIC, Salem, NJ, at the ‘Big K’, Warrenton, VA and he was most proud of his pirate radio station, WTFC, which he started in his bedroom at the age of 15 and he was on the air at least once every year for 40 years. He taught at Newark High School in their television department in the early 1970’s. He lived in Sacramento, CA for several years and worked at UC Davis in their television department. Richard took great pride in being a ham-radio operator and his favorite holiday was Halloween. He carved the best pumpkins!
Besides his mother, Richard, is survived by his three sisters, Carol Dehorty and Pat McGuire, both of Newark; Phyllis Fantini and husband Ernie, Lawrence, Kansas; his nieces, Carolyn Dehorty and Barbara Fulton, Newark, Kelly Holley and husband Bill, Florida; his nephews Scott Dehorty and wife Lisa, Bel Air, MD, Franklin Fantini, Lawrence, Kansas and his great- nieces Cameron, Emerson, and Cate and his great-nephews Jackson and Drew. Besides his father he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charlie Dehorty.
A graveside service will be held at the All Saint’s Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy. Wilmington, DE 19808, Monday, June 25, at 11:00 am.
