I've just come across this sad news by pure coincidence. I am so sorry to hear that Rich has passed away. In senior high at Christiana we were best friends. We worked on the Wilmington & Western Railroad together. He drove down to spend some time with me in college in SW VA. We met throughout the years when I'd be back in Delaware from Air Force assignments. So much of what interests me today, and in turn my son, comes from interests that Rich encouarged in me...especially a spirit of adventure, going outside my comfort zone to achieve. I also recall a day when Rich saved my life, literally. God bless to the entire McGuire family, you have never been forgotten, and Rich will never be. Aloha ke Akua

Rich was a unique individual and one that made WVUD/WXDR very special. I'm glad to have known him, and honored that he and his wonderful 42 Hudson sedan delivered me and various others from our wedding party to our big day. That gesture from Rich made the day even more special. I will miss him, especially his stories and his wit.

We will miss Richard, too. What a nice person he was. When his sister would come back to town, he always came out to spend time with us, and it was so very appreciated. He was a good man. I remember him taking my boys through his radio station at home when they were little and they never forgot that experience. Richard had the most beautiful and expressive blue eyes I have ever seen in my life. I will miss his crazy, hilarious e-mails. He was very special to us.

Rich was a friend. When I started at WVUD (wonderful wxdr in those days) he patiently showed me the basics: how to splice tape, speak into a nerf ball, and make sure the correct switches were thrown so that the show, not the background chatter in the studio, got broadcast. I remember his little home studio, faithfully broadcasting great music all the way to the parking lot at Brookside Mall. I remember those sparkling blue eyes. I'll miss him.

When Rich came to the radio station at the U of D as the engineer, I assumed that he would be the typical techie who would soon grow reary of the older slow learner of a disk jockey like me. I could not have been more wrong. Rich was patient, a great teacher, witty and funny and did I say charming. I appreciated his expertise as well as his ability to explain any number of operational, technical procedures. I know that he made a difference at the station. My heart felt condolences go out to his family. Fondly and Respectfully submitted, Gloria James
