Paula G. Veasey, age 82, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025. Born on April 14, 1942, in Elkton, she was the cherished daughter of Alma Mattie Poe.
Paula spent her life rooted in the community she loved. She worked for many years as a production worker at W. L. Gore & Associates, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, Paula found deep joy in the simple pleasures of life. She took great pride in her home and her flower garden, which she lovingly tended each season. Her yard was often admired by neighbors and friends, especially during the holidays when her elaborate Christmas display became a beloved tradition. Paula would sit back and quietly enjoy the lights, proud of the beauty she created and the joy it brought to others.
A devoted Elvis Presley fan, Paula filled her home with his music and never tired of hearing his voice. But more than anything, Paula loved her family. She especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. She was the heart of her family — someone who made everyone feel welcome, loved, and cared for.
Paula was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Mattie Poe; her beloved brother, Donald Jennings, who was like a father to her; her sisters, Vivian Simmons, Elaine Shiflett, and Doris McDowell; and her brother, Ralph Jennings.
She is survived by her loving children, Jerry Palmer and Dawn Jester; her grandchildren, Jennifer Marrero and husband Joey, and Jeffrey Hawkins and wife Angie; her great-grandchildren, Jaden, Peyton, Skylar, Jeffrey, Zoie, Ellie, and Aubrie; and her sister, Shirley Wallace. Paula’s love, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Paula’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 East Main Street, Elkton, Maryland. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Gilpin Manor Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Paula’s name be made payable to “American Alzheimer’s Association” or “Samm’s Lymphoma Fight Foundation” and sent in care of the funeral home.
