Carol and I are sorry to announce that our mother, Patricia Chandler Alderson has passed away at age seventy-six and has joined our father. Patti, Mom, or Grammy was most at home on the beaches of Ocean City, Fenwick and Bethany. Heaven is sure to have a beach and ocean as beautiful as those for her to enjoy.
Patricia spent her childhood on the beach at Sixth Street training lifeguards, standing up rental beach umbrellas, and waiting tables at the Majestic. Patti was a dog lover, speaking most often of her childhood English Setter Rex and his exploits stealing golf balls from a nearby course. She often spoke of saving her money as a teenager to buy forty-five records and going to Jitterbug with her friends on Fridays. Patricia graduated from Wicomico High School, attended Salisbury University, married George Thomas Alderson Jr. and raised two children. Her father owned a restaurant so she was naturally a wonderful cook and if you ever came by our mother’s home she always fed you a meal fit for Eastern Shore royalty.
Grammy enjoyed most of all bragging and reporting on the exploits of her five grandchildren. She also enjoyed reminding everyone of our father and to retell his old stories. Patti loved spending time and playing cards with her beloved Aunt Irene, her sister Joanne, and her cousin Kathy. She always, always kept us up to date on our beach cousins from her family, and our farm cousins from our father’s family. We will treasure memories of our days at the beach with mom, and then cooking crab cakes and traditional Eastern Shore food for all and then walking on the boardwalk and having some Fisher’s Popcorn.
In retirement Patti enjoyed playing golf with our dad and their Bethany Beach friends. She loved her Corgi Chester and Cocker Spaniel Marley.
Patricia Chandler Alderson is survived by numerous friends and by her son Mark, her daughter Carol and son-in-law Danny Poarch, her grandchildren: Nicole, Daniel, Alyssa, Diana and Joshua. Patti is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be missed.
A funeral service for Patti will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 1PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701. Family and friends near Sussex County and Beach area are invited to a Celebration of Life for Patti on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 1PM at the Alderson house, 38266 Marlington Rd., Ocean View, DE 19970. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234, 29265 Marshy Hope Way, Ocean View, Delaware 19970.
