Patricia M. McCullough of Mount Pleasant, SC, age 93, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Patricia (Pat) was born on May 1, 1928, in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Hazen H. Meier and Dorothy B. (Bowman) Meier.
Pat had a servant’s heart and took great joy in serving others. She was a doting wife to George and mother to her children. Pat was an amazing housekeeper, cook and caretaker of home bills and finances. A planner and organizer, Pat excelled at the gift of administration. She shined in her role as Staff Assistant at the University of Delaware until she retired in 1993. She actively served at St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church in Newark, DE and the Union Hospital’s Good as New Shop (Elkton, MD) for many years. For decades, Pat also loved serving on election day, signing in local voters and catching up on the lives of acquaintances and friends. Most recently, she served at Meals on Wheels in Mount Pleasant, SC. But, Pat’s most important role was as a faithful caretaker to her loving husband, George, particularly in his final years. Pat had a zest for life even in her last few years living at Somerby Senior Living in Mount Pleasant, SC where she proudly participated in many of the activities offered at Somerby, surprising others with her energy level and desire to get involved. Pat’s purpose in her last few years was to bring a smile to those who cared for her. This was a blessing to watch, and we know this was a blessing to others.
Pat is survived by her son, Steven G. McCullough and his wife, Stephanie, of Mount Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Rachael Benalcazar (husband, Felipe), of Goose Creek, SC; grandson, Bradley McCullough (wife, Kayla), of Summerville, SC; grandson, Gabriel, of Moncks Corner, SC; and two great grandchildren. Her children and grands brought Pat great joy and she loved living near them all. In addition to her parents, Patricia is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy, father, Hazen and husband, George.
Services for Patricia will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church (276 S. College Ave. Newark, DE) at 10am Saturday, September 25, 2021. A visitation will take place immediately following. Burial will be held privately at Hopewell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Hospital Foundation and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W.
