Norma (Nowland) Fisher, 93 years old, of Nottingham, PA, formerly of Newark, DE, expired on Sunday, November 6, 2016. Norma was born in Holloway Terrace, New Castle, DE, on September 10, 1923 to the late Hattie and George Nowland. Her husband of 60 years, Edward Fisher, died on June 19, 2006.
Norma served as a Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in World War II. She was a graduate of the nursing school of the Wilmington General Hospital. She retired from the Nursing School of Wilmington as a medical/surgical instructor. Norma also received a Bachelor’s degree from Wilmington College. She was a lifetime member of the Newark Senior Center, where she was a dedicated volunteer. Norma was past president of Terrace Manor Gardens Civic Association and the Rose Hill School PTA. She was also the first school nurse of the Rose Hill – Minquadale School District. Norma was a member of the Newark Social and Charitable Club.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Georga Carrow and her husband, George, of Hockessin, DE; sons: E. Michael Fisher and his wife, Judith, of Nottingham, PA, and Jeffrey T. Fisher and his wife, Karen, of Millsboro, DE; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Margaret Szewczyk; and brother-in-law, Francis Maucher and his wife, Brenda.
Services honoring Norma’s life will be held at 3:30PM on Monday, November 14, 2016 in the Evergreen Room at Newark Senior Center, 200 Whitechapel Drive, Newark, DE 19713, with a visitation beginning at 2:30PM. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Newark Senior Center” or “Word of Life, Kidz Life Ministry” and sent in care of R.T Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W.
