Phyllis Ann Meadows, age 71, of Newark, DE, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 30, 2022. She was born in Elkton, MD on March 22, 1951 to the late Charles Mars and Irene (Collins) Mars.
Before she was a member of Newark Baptist Church, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Elkton where she sang in the choir and taught Children’s Church and Vacation Bible school.
She was a hard-working and loving woman who found great joy in her family – especially her grandchildren, visiting with friends – especially her neighbor and “bestie”, Linda, and working in her flower garden – which has been said to rival Longwood Gardens.
Phyllis, who was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young, went back to work and retired from Bank of America (MBNA). Earlier in her life, she faced breast cancer with grit, determination, and stubbornness that made her family proud; she was approaching fifteen years cancer free.
Phyllis is survived by her four sons: Thomas (Kimberly) Meadows, Jr., Wayne (Sabra) Meadows, Ryan (Gina) Meadows, and Mark Meadows; five grandchildren: Amanda (Thomas) Ristau, Matthew Meadows, Andrew Meadows, Ryder Meadows, and Carter Meadows; sibling: John Mars; brother in laws: Harold Meadows, Ernest Meadows, Ronald Holle ; and sister in laws: Linda Mars, Donna Yedinak, Mary Clark, Debbie (Bill) Giffing, and Judy (Geno) Rohl.
In addition to her loving husband of 54 years, Tom, she was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Charlie Mars, Donald Mars, Albert Mars, George Mars, Shirley Brown and Janet Salmons.
A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Newark Baptist Church, 6011 Telegraph Road, Elkton, MD 21921 where friends and family may begin visiting at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Gilpin Manor Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Susan G Koman Foundation”.
