Mimi Ruth Cox, age 52, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on March 31, 2012. She was born on September 15, 1959 to Joan (Brown) Cox & the late Edward Cox.
Mimi was generous & giving, to a fault; Mimi was a wonderful caregiver who helped & comforted people unconditionally, even at great cost to herself. Mimi lived life to the fullest. Her generosity was exemplified in one of her greatest passions in life, cooking.
Mimi had a gift for languages, she majored in French at the University of Delaware. After college she went on a vacation with a friend to Key West & she loved the beach & the relaxed & Bohemian atmosphere so much she just stayed. In Key West she picked up Spanish & Cuban. She also took on what turned out to be a job she was gifted at – bartending. Mimi was a born entertainer, loved people, telling jokes & making people laugh, & fixing drinks that people liked to drink.
Mimi was a champion of the underdog. She thrived in her last job, working with the developmentally disabled. From bartending, to cooking for crowds large & small, to giving the best hugs in the world, Mimi was always taking care of others. Mimi adored animals & they adored her. From her dog, Shorty, her junkyard cat, Wanker, & more recent cats, Whosie & Pez, & border collie Willow, little made Mimi happier than playing with her adored pets or waking up in the morning with one or more of them lying next to her.
Mimi is survived by her mother, Joan Cox of Wilmington, DE; & sisters, Deirdre Joan Cox of Sausalito, CA & Kathryn Ellsworth of Brewster, NJ.
