Michael William Gerjovich, age 71, of Brentwood, New York, passed away September 30, 2016. Born December 15, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York, Michael was the son of the late Henry and Dorothy Gerjovich.
Michael was a passionate and accomplished artist with degrees from the University of Delaware and York Academy of Art. Ms. Ligoa Duncan was Michael’s greatest influence.
His most notable paintings are exhibited in Holland, France and New York. He was a former member of the Delaware Art Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Brandywine River Museum and the Philadelphia Sketch Club.
He has been listed in the International Who’s Who Euresco France, Who’s Who In the East USA and Notable Americans USA. Two significant honors of many include Le Prix De Peinture Du Centenaire De Raymond Duncan – Bronze medal and International Festival – Europe- Gold Medal of Honor presented by the Country of Holland.
Michael believed that artists are visionaries and should always be experimenting, exploring, and searching for a new form of expression. Creativity, innovation, color, and being totally unique and versatile were his trademarks.
Michael is survived by his sister, Stephanie Wright and her husband, Brian of Bear, DE; two brothers, John Gerjovich and his wife, Michelle of Telford, PA and Paul Gerjovich of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to Forgotten Cats, Inc. and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
