Michael “Mike” J. Kirkwood

August 1, 1950 - July 1, 2021

Michael “Mike” J. Kirkwood of Wilmington, DE, age 70, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021. He was born in Wilmington, DE on August 1, 1950 to the late William John Kirkwood, Sr. and Cecelia (Smulewicz) Kirkwood.

 

Mike was very proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force from 1970-1974 in Vietnam where he built and maintained airfields. Mike found joy in living a simple life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as well as growing tomato plants. Mike had a passion for cars and had an extensive die cast car collection and found his greatest joy in going for a drive in his beloved 1988 Buick Century.

 

Mike is survived by two sisters-in-law: Mary and Catherine Kirkwood; and five nieces and nephews: Robert Kirkwood, Katie (Shawn) Fortune, Amy (EJ) Maynard, Rebecca (Tyler) Mitchell and Craig (Lindsay) Kirkwood. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, William Kirkwood, Jr., and his twin brother, Robert Kirkwood.

 

Services for Mike will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
