Mary L. Zagar, of Newark, Delaware, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, July 24, 2017. She was born on August 22, 1936 in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, to the late Clarence J. Wendel and Mary L. (Brentari) Wendel.

Mary was a 1957 graduate of the Geisinger Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Danville, Pennsylvania. She was a registered nurse for 60 years. She worked at the University of Delaware Student Health Service for 42 years, retiring in 2016. She devoted her career to working with student athletes. She was a member of the Delaware Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, and a founding member of the Maryland College Health Nurses Association.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William J. Zagar, who died in 1996. She is survived by her son, William W. Zagar, of Newark.

A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017 at R. T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, Delaware 19711. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Church, 200 East Main Street, Newark, Delaware 19711 with burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
