Bob Cole left a message on August 9, 2022:
It is with deep sadness that I learned of the Mark’s passing, my U of D college roommate and friend for some years afterward. I have many memories of good times and lots of laughs starting freshman year at our Rodney F dorm room, known to the others in dorm as the home of “Cole Turkey”. After graduation, he took me out on the golf course a number of times, and was very patient despite my lack of skill. Although we didn’t see each other after I moved out of the Wilmington area, I still fondly recall our closeness during those days. I want to extend my deepest condolences to Mrs. Grunert and Mark’s daughters. May he rest in peace.

My name is Danny, I have known Tom and Ann for many years. I consider them my Brother and Sister. I remember meeting Mark a few years ago with Tom and we had a fun time discussing our favorite sports teams. After reading the Obit it was no big surprise to me of Mark's dedicated family values as well as his dedication to the less fortunate. I have witnessed that same dedication for many from Tom and Ann. I will include your family in my daily prayers for Peace and Comfort. God Bless, Danny Someillan

Teresa,Meghan, Katie, Tim, Anne, Tom I can't tell you how much I enjoyed Mark, swapping sports tales, particularly golf. I never got to talk to him about the Saudi LIV, but certain he'd have something to say. He was a great neighbor, a great person, a fun person with a keen sense of humor and I will miss him dearly. He definitely left far too soon. But besides his family waiting for him, he'll be with "Coach." Mark and I shared our sadness when Scotty Duncan passed, but they probably are already together, joking about the many golf trips UD took, particurly the ones to Bucknell and Florida. His annual woffleball game also will be missed by the entire neighborhood, but possibly Tim can take over the organization for the first annual Mark Grunert Woffleball Extravaganza, although no one will eveer be more precise about the field condition and measurements, Meghan and Katie, not only have you lost a great dad, but you have lost one of your two greatest fans from your sports days and in life in general. Teresa, I wish Laurie was here to help you through any tough times, she truly loved the Grunert family, but you still have two people next door who will be at your service at any time. RIP Mark
