Marcella A. Lawler, age 81 of Newark, DE, passed away on September 12, 2018. She was born in Queens, NY to the late Marcella (Mulligan) Hoffman and Clifford Hoffman.
Marcella was a loving wife and homemaker for her family. She and Alfred, her husband of 59 years, met while both dance skating in Long Island, NY. Alfred introduced her to Irish dancing, which Marcella loved. She enjoyed all types of dancing with her love, Alfred. Shortly after their marriage, their daughter was born. Marcella enjoyed camping, playing the dulcimer, shopping, and her passion of helping the different charitable organizations she was involved in.
Marcella is survived by her husband, Alfred G. Lawler of Newark; daughter, Ann Lawler and her husband Ronald Weaverling of Newark; granddaughters, Nicole McDermott of Wilmington and Jennifer McDermott of Newark; grandson, Matthew McDermott of Wilmington; sister, Pat Krauss and her husband John of Pennsylvania; and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Marcella is preceded in death by her grandson, Michael McDermott.
A viewing for Marcella A. Lawler will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018 at R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 200 East Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Burial will follow at Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Little Sisters of the Poor” and sent in care of the funeral home.
