Kathryn Crothers Knutsen, age 78 of Rising Sun, MD passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Born on March 13, 1946, in Wilmington, DE, Kathryn was the daughter of the late Alfred Thompson Crothers, Jr., and the late Mary Brown Crothers.

Kathy, a beloved teacher, friend, and community member, whose life was dedicated to the education and upliftment of those around her. Kathy spent over 20 years as a cherished educator at Leeds Elementary, where she inspired countless children with her passion for learning and her unwavering commitment to their growth.

Beyond her role in the classroom, Kathy was actively involved in the Red Hat Society, where she enjoyed camaraderie and laughter with her friends. Kathy was also a proud member of the Rising Sun Alumni Group, Class of ’64, demonstrating her enduring love for her alma mater. She treasured the moments spent with her fellow teachers, gathering to reminisce about old times and share stories of their experiences in the classroom.

Kathy was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Church, where her faith guided her actions and her heart.  She found much joy in her church community. Kathy’s passion for teaching, her love for her friends, and her unyielding spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Kathy is survived by her children: Gregory Knutsen (Stephanie), and Donna Wilson (David); grandchildren: Bethany, Evan, Emmie, Caroline, and Justin; brother, Tom Crothers (Joy); sister-in-law, Linda Crothers; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Kathy is preceded in death by husband, Warren Knutsen; and brother, Donald Crothers.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 11:30 AM, at Ebenezer Church, 1072 Ebenezer Church Road, Rising Sun, MD, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Rosebank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Ebenezer Church”, send in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., P.O.
