June Jarrell Vande Poele, age 84, of Hockessin, DE (formerly of Newark, DE and Fenwick Island, DE) passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2017. Born June 18, 1933 in Wilmington, DE, June was the daughter of the late Ralph and Beatrice (Saye) Jarrell.
June was a 1951 graduate of P.S. Dupont High School. She continued on to attend Goldey Beacom College where she obtained her degree in business. June dedicated sixteen years to the University of Delaware where she retired as the Assistant to the Chair of the Consumer’s Studies Department. She was an active member of the Fenwick Island Women’s Club, St. Matthew’s By the Sea United Methodist Church and Newark United Methodist Church. June was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, playing bridge and bowling. She was always involved in her children’s activities and was a long time scorekeeper for the Nottingham Green Swim Club. June’s most cherished time was spent with her wonderful family whom she and her late husband, Art were very proud of.
June is survived by her daughter, Robin Verch (William) of Abingdon, MD; three sons: David Vande Poele (Anna) of Hockessin, DE, Chris Vande Poele (John) of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Jeffrey Vande Poele (Kim) of West Grove, PA; four grandchildren: Andrew, Leah, J.C. and Fallon; and her sister, Beatrice Buchanan of Sun City Center, FL.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, Arthur R. Vande Poele.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brandywine Assisted Living, Genesis – Brackenville Center, and Compassionate Care Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
A memorial service will be held in June’s honor on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 7pm at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit beginning at 6pm. An additional memorial will be held at 2pm on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at St. Matthew’s By the Sea United Methodist Church in Fenwick Island, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “St. Matthews By the Sea United Methodist Church” or to “Compassionate Care Hospice” and sent in care of the funeral home.
