Judith “Judy” Ann Quinton Hitchens, 81, of Chesapeake City, Maryland, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025. Born on September 21, 1944, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Quinton and grew up in a warm, close-knit family.
Judy devoted her life to serving others through her work as an RN pediatric nurse, including over 20 years at Union Hospital and her final role with Nurses ’n Kids, where she cared for children with acute and chronic medical needs. She loved every child she cared for.
Judy’s personal life was filled with simple joys. She valued time with family, friends, and those she cared for. She had a lifelong love of pandas. She also cherished jewelry and gemstones, especially those in her favorite color, emerald green.
Judith was the devoted wife of the late Allen Hitchens Sr., with whom she shared many happy years of marriage until his passing in 1996. She is survived by:
- Allen “Tobe” Hitchens Jr., her son, and his wife Kristine Hitchens;
- Finn Allen Hitchens, her beloved grandson; and
- Sandra “Sandy” Conrad, her sister (of Alexandria,Virginia).
She also leaves behind extended family and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her siblings Joyce M. Crowley, Sara (Quinton) Mills, and George Quinton, as well as her half-brother Thomas “Buddy” Milbourne Smith, who was killed in action on Okinawa while serving as a Corpsman in World War II.
In honor of Judy’s wishes, no public funeral service will be held. The family will gather privately to celebrate her life, share memories, and reflect on the many ways she enriched their lives.
Friends and loved ones are invited to honor Judy’s memory in personal and meaningful ways—perhaps by wearing something emerald green, appreciating nature’s animals or offering an act of kindness in her name.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that gifts be made in Judy’s memory to the Chesapeake City SPCA and the Chesapeake City Volunteer Fire Company and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the love, support, and condolences shared during this time.
