Joyce Marie LaMonica, age 79, of Elkton, MD passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at her home. She was born on April 16, 1936 in Wilmington, NC to the late Charles Harrison and Martha Kathleen Pugh.
Joyce retired from Astra Zeneca, but she was mostly known and enjoyed being a mom and grandmother, caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. Active at her church – Immaculate Conception, she loved being with the friends she made while serving on various committees. She was known to always lend a helping hand to anyone in need, providing transportation, and food donations and preparation in the local homeless shelters and soup kitchen outreaches. She also volunteered at the local pregnancy center. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, and bird watching. Passionate for sweets, she always had plenty on hand to give to the children, and she was known by many as “Grandma Wonka”.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Charles Bruce LaMonica and his wife, Kathleen of New Fairfield, CT, Roxanne LaMonica Wharton and her husband, Stephen, of Clayton, DE, Francis Michael LaMonica and his wife, Sharon of Rising Sun, MD and Jonathan Godwin and his wife, Charissa of Annapolis, MD; sisters, Jean Harrison Jones of Wilmington, NC, and Geri Harrison Edgerly of Rochester, NH; and 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Peter James LaMonica, her daughter, Gina M. LaMonica-Godwin, and brother, Charlie Harrison.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday- April 9, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 455 Bow Street, Elkton, MD 21921. Friends and family may visit one hour prior beginning at 10AM. Burial will be private.
