Joyce Lucinda Perez

Joyce Lucinda Perez, age 62 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025, at her home. Born August 31,1962 in Wilmington, DE, Joyce was the daughter of Angelo Nicholas Mercado and Caroline Lee (Cathell) Mercado.

Joyce brought joy and love into the lives of everyone she met. Her life was filled with an abundance of kindness, compassion, love and an unwavering devotion to her family. In her most recent years, her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy and passion. She made it a daily ritual to call her grandchildren to check in, always eager to hear about their day and offer her love and support. Her family was her pride and joy, and she dedicated herself to nurturing those relationships.

A gifted singer, Joyce’s love for music was evident throughout her life. In her younger years, she displayed her talent as a contestant in Miss Teen USA, where she sang with grace and confidence. Music continued to play a vital role in her life as she sang in the band at her church. Joyce was also an Ordained Minister at Faith City Church. Her dedication to serving others was seen in her role as the Minister of the Youth Group, where she inspired and guided young individuals.

Joyce will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all that knew and loved her.

Joyce is survived by her children: Ernesto “Ernie” Perez, Jr. (wife, Kristen), Christopher Perez (partner, Krista Powel), Amanda Perez, and Jose Rivera; grandchildren: Aden Perez, Theadora Perez, Cameron Perez, Emilio Perez, Jullian Rivera-Perez, and Aeralyse Rivera-Perez; her parents: Angelo and Caroline Mercado; siblings: Angelo, Janet, Anthony, Jackie, and Jennifer.  She is preceded in death by her sister, Judy.

At the convenience of the family, services will be held privately.
