John A. Yedinak, Sr., age 69 of Elkton, MD passed away peacefully at his home on November 10, 2025. He was born on February 17, 1956 in Elkton, MD to the late Henry Yedinak and Rachel Katherine (DeMond) Yedinak.

John was a proud member of the Elkton community. He dedicated his time and service to the Singerly Fire Company since 1983 where he served in many capacities within the Engineering staff and was currently an Assistant Engineer. He saved many lives and helped many more as a member of Singerly. Notably, John was awarded for bravely entering a burning home to rescue an endangered person on March 24, 1984.  For this effort he was awarded a citation by the Maryland State Delegate.

John was a lifelong auto enthusiast and was able turn his passion for cars into a successful career as an auto technician. He was hired by the Cecil County Government as a Fleet Technician where he serviced the county’s first responder vehicles.  He took tremendous pride in servicing these vehicles, especially the Sheriff’s Office Deputies vehicles.  One Deputy noted that under John he “dropped off a Volkswagen and picked up a Cadillac”.  Eventually, John transitioned into inspections. He retired from the Cecil County Government after a dedicated career spanning 37 years. In the community, John dedicated his time to the Elkton Moose Lodge, where he fundraised for many events and charitably served the people of Elkton.

John had two sons, John A. Yedinak, Jr. and Michael J. Yedinak. They meant the world to him. When his boys were young, John stayed very active in their sports and coached them in baseball and football. His sons followed in John’s footsteps as volunteers at Singerly Fire Company. John Jr. and Mike remain active in the Elkton community. John’s lifelong home on Singerly Road was frequented for many decades by friends and family. On most evenings, you would find John on the back porch welcoming all who visited, and nothing brought him more joy than time with his granddaughter, Alice. Nothing brought him the kind of joy as being called “Grandpop”.

John is survived by his sons: John A. Yedinak, Jr. (Sarah) and Michael J. Yedinak; granddaughter, Alice Yedinak; sisters: Patricia Charshee (Kenneth), Diane Moon (Lee), and Brenda Hunt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Buddy Yedinak and L. Joseph Yedinak; and sister, Carol Dorsey.

A viewing will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 6-8PM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921. A celebration of his life will be on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 11AM at the funeral home. Family and friends may attend the viewing beginning at 10AM. Burial will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Chesapeake City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Singerly Fire Company” and sent in care of the funeral home.
