Joan Kisner, age 88, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Born on February 18,1938, in Newark, DE, Joan was the loving daughter of the late Edgar Lawson, and the late Florence (Mercer) Lawson.
Joan was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who dedicated her life to nurturing her family. She loved watching her kids and grandkids play sports, never missing a game and offering cheers from the sidelines. Beyond her immediate family, Joan’s love and support for children and babies had no boundaries. She was an avid supporter of children in the Philippines.
Joan’s heart was a sanctuary for all creatures great and small. Her home, always open to strays and rescues, was shared with seven cats, three dogs, and a solitary fish, each of whom she lovingly cared for. Joan also found joy in the simple pleasures of camping, sewing and quilting.
Joan was a devoted member of the Red Lion United Methodist Church and held her faith close to her heart. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Society, where she embraced the joy and friendship of sisterhood.
Joan is survived by her children: Ed Kisner, Bill Kisner (wife, Kim), and Iris Brown; grandchildren: Lauren, Austin, Drew, Greg, Hunter, and Cameron; great grandchildren: Zachary, Stella, Ethan, Bella Mae, Scarlett, and Kai.
In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Willard Kisner; brothers: Dick Lawson, and John Lawson.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Head of Christiana Cemetery, 1100 Church Road, Newark, DE 19711. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Faithful Friends Animal Society” or “Delaware Humane Association” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
