Jean Marie Swanson of Wilmington, DE, age 92 passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018. She was born on September 15, 1926 in Wilmington, DE to the late Carl W. and Anna (Hallman) Brosch.
Jean graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1944. After graduation, she attended the University of Delaware and Goldey-Beacum College before pursuing her great joy, taking care of her family. Jean was a great cook who made everything from scratch and was an excellent seamstress. An intelligent woman, she had an amazing memory and could recall stories all the way back to her first grade year. Jean’s greatest joy was spending time with, and taking care of, her family. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she felt great happiness in the love and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean is survived by three children: Christine Cannon (Eric) of Hockessin, DE, Dick Swanson, Jr. (Jen) of Westford, MA, and Susan Reffuge (Roy) of Bear, DE; three grandchildren: Lindsay Cannon Burgess, Zachary N. Cannon and Emily M. Swanson; and four great-grandchildren: Randi Homola, Trey Burgess, Logan Burgess and Avery Cannon.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Swanson, son, Jeffrey S. Swanson and granddaughter, Jan Renee Walton.
A private graveside service was held in Jean’s honor on Friday at All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington, DE.
The family would like to thank the Visiting Nurses Association (Christiana Care), the Independence at Home Program, and particularly, Sharon, her exceptional aide, who helped to make it possible for Jean to live as independently as she wanted and was able.
