Helen Murray Lynam, age 101, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. She was born in February 1920 to Levi and Kate (Moody) Murray, the fourth of five children.
Helen grew up on a farm outside of Newark DE. She graduated from Newark High School in 1938 and attended the University of Delaware and Beacom College. She married Gregg Paul Lynam in 1943 and they celebrated their 60th Anniversary before his passing in 2003. They lived in the Marshalton area until 1968 and then briefly in Shaker Heights, Ohio until moving to Radley Run, West Chester, PA in 1970. They moved to Jenner’s Pond in 1999. Over the years, Helen enjoyed bowling and golf and was a Phillies and Blue Hens fan, but her real joy was her family.
Helen is survived by her 4 children: Marilyn Kay Lynam (Alan Jewett) of Wilmington, DE; Patricia Murray Yeatman of West Grove, PA; Gregg Murray Lynam of Washington, D.C.; and Valerie Lynam Swift (Brian) of Fair Hill, MD; 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Misra (Shaq); Christopher Jewett (Joanna); Douglas Yeatman (Brandi); David Yeatman (Samantha); and Shannon Swift; and 8 great grandchildren: Miles, Nicholas, Armaan, Ronan, Jai, Calvin, Helen and Autumn. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen is preceded in death by her brothers: John and Ralph; and sisters, Eleanor and Margaret.
The family would like to thank her caregivers – Sandy, Patti, Heidi, Melissa, Jessica, Nancy, Samantha and Julie.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Saturday July 24, 2021 at R.T. Foard & Jones, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where family and friends may visit at 10:00 a.m. and the service will be at 11 a.m. Burial will be held immediately after at White Clay Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Willow Tree Hospice”; “Avondale Presbyterian Church”; or “White Clay Creek Cemetery Association” and sent in care of the funeral home.
