It is said that friends are the family we choose. We met about 74 years ago in first grade at Krebs Elementary School and began a friendship that lasted for over seven decades. We saw each other through so very much - trials and tribulations, happiness and joys, loss and great sadness. Our friendship remained and grew even closer and stronger these last years. It's very difficult to imagine you are no longer physically here with us. However your beautiful spirit remains and for that I am eternally grateful. The honor and privilege of your lifelong friendship enriched my life and made me a better person in so very many ways. Rest easy my dear, dear friend. Forever in my heart.

Oh sweet Hattie. I’m so sorry we fell out of touch these last few years and I didn’t get to say goodbye. Thank you for all your kindness, your thoughtful words of wisdom, your holiday cards and letters, your mentorship. The heavens are much brighter because you’re there now. Rest peacefully, my dear friend.

Hattie was a warm, kind friend to me during difficult years of my own. We both worked at UD’s Morris Library, but had known each other for years through literature and arts events. I’m so sorry to hear of her death. Love to her sons and family!
