I worked with Rick for many years on the ASME RTP-1 Design & Fabrication sub-committee. Rick devoted much effort to the advancement of the standard and contributed substantially to the sub-committee’s understanding of the complexities of the analysis of composite materials. Thanks for all of your contributions, Rick, and may you rest in peace. My sincere condolences to the family. Brian Riseborough, ASME Colleague, Caledon East, ON, Canada, Jan 07, 2016

"Rick will be missed by so many of us that benefited so much from his shared knowledge in detailed composite material analysis and practical applications solutions. He was a clever out of the box problem solver with a wit sharp as a tack even when health issues were slowing him down. As a fellow Consultant I will miss his wisdom and solutions assisting the the ASME RTP groups and quiet times where we worked together. He shared his design thoughts will so many we will miss him dearly and for his close friends special and deepest sympathies are extended.

As young adults are wont to do, you and I and our companions shared preferences for the present tense back in the days of our adult beginnings. Now Rick you've slipped off into the past tense, that is, a realm of being which embraces immortality and reaches right into an eternal life we presently share. I don't know much about your considerable mathematical and engineering finesse, but I do know your legendary status as a multi-dimensioned shot maker will live at least as long as those of us who knew you. I for one especially appreciate a laughs we shared over smokes and drinks and the quiet black jazz club in Wilmington you introduced me to late in high school. Rest in Peace my friend.
Bob Davis left a message on January 5, 2016:
I have known Rick for many years through ASME committee work. He was among the small minority of members who actually performed the engineering analysis and made the proposals for improvements to the standards. The many hours he spent over many years resulted in significant improvements to industry knowledge and were much appreciated by all who knew him. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

I am sorry to learn of Rick's passing. I worked with him when he was with Composites USA and I was with General Chemical in Claymont-mostly in the design phase of new tanks. He was always a gentleman and very professional.

Ted an Patsy: So sorry. Rick was, on reflection, the genius I most admired. As I think you know, I grew up with and have known a few. I will expound in another missive.

RIP my old HS friend. You were a "white hat", a brilliant man, and often mature beyond your years in the early days. In later life just a damned nice guy. Ray Honaker

I was very sorry to here of Rick's passing. I worked with him for over 10 years on the ASME committees. He was a heavy contributer to the ASME RTP-1 Standard and also to Section X. The committees will miss his valuable assistance. As a friend and professional engineer, I knew Rick as a very honest and sincere fellow who always went the extra mile for his clients with excellent results in his designs. I also worked with him when he was with Composites and designed some equipment for DuPont where I was a consultant. He did a excellent job then as always. A true professional at his craft. I will surely miss his wisdom and contributions.
