Franklyn E. Boys passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at Newark Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his family. He was born, November 22, 1922 in Wilmington and was the son of Clyde and Louise Boys. Frank grew up in Wilmington, Alabama, Chicago, and Drexel Hill, PA as his father transferred with Hercules Powder Co.
Upon graduation from Upper Darby High School in 1941, Frank entered the University of Delaware. World War II interrupted his education in 1942 and he spent three years and seven months as an Army Scout in the southwest pacific in New Guinea, Luzon and the first occupation army of Japan. In 1946, he returned to the University of Delaware where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Entomology in 1948. In 1946, he also met his wife to be when they were both in a classmate’s wedding ceremony. In 1948, Frank and Doris married and moved to Bridgeville, DE where he worked for, O.A. Newton’s Agriculture Chemical Division.
In 1965, Frank returned to Newark and the University of Delaware to earn his Master’s Degree in Entomology and work for the Agriculture Extension Service. Frank retired from the university in 1985 and spent many happy years traveling with his wife throughout the states and many parts of the world.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Doris Boys, his son, Jeffrey of Newark, daughter, Amy Thompson (Larry) of Hockessin, son, Kenneth of New York, grandson, Jamie Thompson (Rachel) of Florida, granddaughter, Beth Slaten of Newark, and great-grandchildren, Jarett, Wyatt, Cooper, Lacie, and Meredith.
We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of Newark Manor Nursing Home where Frank received wonderful and loving care.
A service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc. 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may visit 10-11 prior to the service beginning at 11 AM. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Newark United Methodist Church, 69 R. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
