Eugene McKay. Jr. was born September 9,1947 in Cheraw, SC to the late Eugene McKay, Sr. and the late Pearl Hagler McKay. He was the second of 5 siblings, Mary, John, Annie and Frank.
“Buddy” was the nickname he was affectionately called by his family and close friends. He departed this life on December 8, 2025 in Lanham, Maryland.
Upon the family’s relocation to the Washington, DC area, Eugene was educated in the Washington D.C. Public School System and graduated from Roosevelt Senior High School. After graduation, he began employment with the National Education Association (NEA) as an Operating Agent responsible for restocking communal supply closets, managing the mail room inventory and special requests. While working at NEA, Eugene met Sandra Yates. Their relationship quickly blossomed into a love that lasted a lifetime and they were married October 26, 1975. Eugene retired from NEA in 1986 after 20 years. He spent his retirement years enjoying his family at cookouts, watching football games and classic black and white movies with Sandy. Eugene suffered the loss of Sandy in June 2014 but he managed to keep busy. He loved to read and had a large collection of books. He also loved music and owned a vast collection of vinyl records. Eugene was authentic, true to himself and one-of-a-kind. He was loyal and very dedicated to his family. He was always there when you needed him. He will be missed and remembered with love by all.
He leaves to treasure his life and memories: Sister Annie (Chuck); brothers John (Sonie) and Frank; nieces Marie Falwell (Ron} Tunishia Greer; Caitlin Ballard and Kim Jones; nephews Calvin Brinkley; Keith Jones; and Chris Jones. Also surviving are his ”bonus” nieces Devon Thomas and Franni Anglero. Eugene was preceded in death by his wife Sandra and sister Mary Brinkley.
