Ethel W. McCardell of Colora, MD, age 95, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019. She was born in Farmington, MD on December, 16, 1923 to the late Norman C. Way and Ada T. (Truman) Way.
Ethel was an active member of the West Nottingham Presbyterian Church since birth. She focused on Christian education, having taught Sunday School for many years. Ethel also helped to establish the day care, playground and play school at West Nottingham Presbyterian Church. After many years of service and contributing to the community, she retired from church duties in her sixties. An avid gardener, Ethel loved landscaping. Ethel, a beloved member of the McCardell clan, will be dearly missed and always remembered for being passionate about her faith, her garden, and spending time with her family.
Ethel is survived by two daughters: Barbara A. McCardell of Silver Spring, MD and Vivian S. McCardell of Chester Springs, PA; and four grandchildren: James C. Lendemer and his spouse, Andrei G. Moroz of New York, Annaliese Bumbarger and her spouse, Evan of Chester Springs, PA, Eleanor V. McCardell-Saumelson of Chester Springs, PA, and Jonathan W. McCardell-Saumelson of Chester Springs, PA. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson John McCardell.
A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at West Nottingham Presbyterian Church, 133 Harrisville Rd, Colora, MD 21917. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to West Nottingham Presbyterian Church and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
