Edythe S. Green, 97, entered eternal life on June 16, 2015 in Newark, DE. She was born May 21, 1918 in Stanton, and grew up on her parent’s farm on Ogletown Road, Newark. She graduated from Newark schools before attending Goldey Business College in Wilmington. She was employed by Blue Hen Dairy before attending Wesley College, Dover, and then American University, Washington, D.C.
While attending American University, she worked at Foundry Methodist Church, and met her future husband, Roy C. Green. After her graduation, they were married at Foundry Church, and she became a partner in ministry with Reverend Green, who was serving the Rockaway Valley Methodist Church in New Jersey. She faithfully served with him at Methodist churches in Jersey City, Bound Brook, and Phillipsburg, NJ; Port Jervis NY; and Verona and Rutherford NJ, before retiring while serving the Englewood NJ, First United Methodist Church. They moved to New Castle DE, where they lived for over twenty years before moving to the Millcroft Senior Living community thirteen years ago. They had celebrated 57 years of marriage when Roy passed away in 2006. Edythe was a life member of United Methodist Women, and a member of New Castle United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her twin sister, Kathryn S. Pierson, Newark; daughter Nancy (& husband Mark) Wenner, Port Matilda, PA; son David, Madison, NJ; and grandsons Brian C. Green, Madison, NJ; Kevin A. Wenner, Austin, TX; and Gregory A. Wenner, State College, PA; and her nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in August. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Christiana United Methodist Church, 21 W Main Street, Christiana, Delaware 19702 would be appreciated.
