Douglas J. Geary (67) of Elkton, MD passed away surrounded by family on November 1, 2022. Born on June 6, 1955 in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Paul and Jeannette (nee, Sharpley) Geary and the devoted husband of Patti Geary (nee, Chapman).

Doug was a Design Engineer at W. L. Gore and had just recently retired after 47 years.

Doug was an avid sports enthusiast. Athlete, Coach and Fan. He was a proud member of two Championship Teams: “The Dawgs” New Castle County Flag Football League Champs and the W. L. Gore Championship Volley Ball Team, “Holy Cow”. Throughout the years he coached numerous Youth League teams. Off the field, he was a die-hard Eagles Fan.

Doug enjoyed relaxing at the family cottage on the Elk River and taking fishing trips to Vermont. He was also a talented artisan and created highly cherished Stained-Glass artwork for family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for his love of music, great sense of humor, and most of all for his love and dedication to family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Patti Geary; three children: Michael (Kirsten) Geary, Christopher Geary, Leigh Geary; grandson, Camden Geary and sister, Paula Castelline.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Doug on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Elkton Presbyterian Church – 209 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD. Casual attire, Phillies/ Eagles preferred.

Hi Doug, I just discovered that you passed on to a higher realm and feel saddened. I hope you have found peace, joy, and loved ones. I recall the many times you supported me while I worked for Gore Fair Hill - You were a good guy with a gentle manner, a good friend to many. Rest in Peace

I have so many great memories of Doug. From working on projects together at Fair Hill, to Christmas parties, to playing many years of volleyball with him on the Holy Cow team (and especially can’t forget the big vat of icy-hot he would bring). Doug was a really great guy and I will miss having him around.

My most sincerest condolences for the family and closed/loved ones to Doug. Doug was a very kind/good person I had the pleasure and honor to work with him many years and he always showed his humble approach and willigness to help. Last Xmas he was over the moon to getting to know his grandchild, I am very happy he has had the chance to know him/her, only sorry for the little time shared. I lit a candle for him, Big confort hugs to the family, from Barcelona (Spain).

For over 22 years I had a continuous communication with Doug, he was my teacher. I had the privilege of work with him looking for solutions. Always talked about the weather and his hobby for fishing. I am a Gore associate located in Germany and had the opportunity to work with Doug when I was visiting the Fair Hill plant. Doug made me feel welcome and I really enjoyed working with- and learning from him. I am very sad to hear that Doug passed away. My thoughts and condolence goes to his family. Timo

I work for Gore in Scandinavia (located in Sweden) and I had the pleasure to work with Doug. Even if we sometimes had different opinions we always found a way to agree on a path forward. Doug was a great college and we often talked about none work related things since we both like the outdoor and I have an interest in American Football due to my time in Pittsburgh.
