Dave and I were colleagues in the Foreign Languages & Literatures Department for many, many years. I'll always remember his kindness, as scheduling officer, in trying to accommodate me as a working mom with a hefty commute. He was a true gentleman, modest and generous to the core.

I met Dr. Stixrude when I joined the FLL Dept in 1999. He was patient, kind, helpful and a calming influence in the department with his soft voice and easy manner. I could always go to him for help and guidance, especially since he was very approachable, usually accessible, and quite welcoming with his office door open and a smile on his face. I enjoyed his wry sense of humor. My sincere condolences to his family.

I remember Professor Stixrude as a kind, soft-spoken, and caring person. We shared a love for poetry, and his door was always open to talk about Salinas, Alberti, A. & M. Machado, and García Lorca. Such a wonderful man and mentor. May he rest in peace.

I'm remembering Dr.Stixrude's patience and kindness in our Spanish classes at the University of Delaware in the '60's. He spoke the language so beautifully! A student always remembers how a teacher made him or her feel, and Dr. Stixrude with his broad smile always made me feel valued. I'm so grateful that he was my teacher! My sincere condolences to his family.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

We are grateful to have moved next door to Dave and Ellen 12 years ago and we could not have asked for nicer neighbors. Dave always had a kind word in his gentle way. The Stixrude family is in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

Cousin Jerry Burr preceded Dave by a couple of months and I can imagine the two of them playing twin pianos, everything from Schubert to Brubeck.

Remembering a "semester abroad" to Puerto Rico in a July in the early 1980s with Dr Stixrude. He led an educational, hot, memorable trip that was a highlight of my studies at the U of D. Such a kind man.
