Chew Hing Yee passed at the age of 80 on January 14, 2025, in Wilmington, Delaware with his loving wife Ellen and family at his side.
Chew was born on November 14, 1944, in the village of White Clay Well in the city of Toi San and the province of Canton, China to Yook Sim Yee and Kaing Soon Yee as the first-born son of what was to become a family of four children. As a young teenager, he separated from his family to move to the United States and become a citizen. It took many years, and tremendous hardship before Chew, his parents, and siblings would reunite in the United States.
In 1965, Chew joined the U.S. Army and served both in Korea and stateside before his honorable separation in 1968. During his military service he met and married his beautiful wife, Ellen. They settled in Pueblo, CO near his parents and siblings. It was there that Ellen and Chew began to build their family of four children (Linda, Patricia, Jonathon and David).
Chew was a loving, loyal, hardworking man who made many sacrifices to provide for and support his family. He will always be remembered for his love of his family, his sense of humor and ability to make people smile, and for the strong figure he was in any setting. Throughout his life he positively impacted those who knew him, and he will live on in those memories.
Chew is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years: Ellen; his children: Linda (Don), Patricia, Jonathon (Corrine), and David (Jessel); his grandchildren: Mary Ellen (John), David (Sam), Susan, Jacob, Erika, Juan Pablo, Gabrielle (Alvaro), Everett, Lukas, David Hai, Eliza, and Chase; his great-grandchildren: Ellie, Mark, and Jet; and his siblings: Dara, Marvin, and Melanie.
