Caroline Cook Hisey, age 82, passed away on Wednesday November 26, 2014 surrounded by family. She was born Dec. 7th, 1931 in Wilmington, DE. She was daughter of the late H. Wallace Cook, Sr. and Frances Cook.
Mrs. Hisey was a 1949 graduate of Middletown High School in Delaware. She graduated from University of Delaware in 1953 in the field of Child Development. She earned a Master’s degree from the University of Maryland in 1967.
Mrs. Hisey taught kindergarten in the Baltimore City public schools for 37 years, spending 25 of those years at Beechfield Elementary. She derived great pleasure in working with children and their parents. She was honored with the Channel 13 salute in 1984. She retired in 1991 with a tribute from the Baltimore City mayor, parents, students and a reporter from the Baltimore Sun. She kept in touch with many of the parents and former students through the years.
Predeceased by her only son, James Wallace Hisey, in 1994 and her older brother, MG Boyd M. Cook, in 2008.
Survived by her grandson, Joshua Wallace Hisey, of Airville, PA, who was very dear to her. Also survived by her brother, H. Wallace “Hap” Cook (Martha), of Newark, DE, and six nieces and three nephews and their families.
Caroline was a member of Cornerstone UMC, the Cooch’s Bridge Chapter of the D.A.R., the Cresap Society, Newark Century Club, the Retired Teachers Association of Baltimore City and Cecil County, and the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.
Graveside services will be held at Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD on Monday December 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone United Methodist Church and mailed to R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
