Betty L. Ferguson, age 82 of Elkton, Md passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at her home.
Born in Wilmington, DE on August 16, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Howard and Georgia (Sweetman) Wingard. After graduating from William Penn High School she went to work for Brosius & Eliason Lumber Co. as a dispatcher until marriage and family. She was a member of the Head of Christiana Church for 53 years and the last member of the Appleton Homemaker’s Club.
Among her many creative hobbies she excelled in all types of crafts, painting and loved sewing. She was especially talented in the kitchen and loved cooking for family and friends. Most of all, she delighted in her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her happiest times were spent in the company of her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Harold E. Ferguson; a daughter, Sharon Dudkewitz and her husband Jay of Landenberg, PA; a son, Walter Dale Ferguson Sr. and his wife Eva of Elkton, MD; a brother, Glenn Wingard and his wife Mary of DE; granddaughter, Mandy Jones and her husband, Craig; grandson, Walter D. Ferguson Jr. and his wife Carrie; step granddaughter, Ashley Wiley; step grandson, William Wiley; great granddaughter, Audrey Ferguson and step great grandchildren, Austin Blevins, Alivia Blevins and Glenn Cochran, all of Elkton, MD and former daughter-in-law, Ginny Ferguson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her half sister, Lillian Eash.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at PCU Union Hospital, Calvert Nursing Home and Terri from Amedisys.
A visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012 in Head of Christiana Presbyterian Church, 1100 Church Road, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in Head of Christiana Cemetery.
