Betty Joe Cockerham, age 93, from Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024. She was born on November 26, 1930, in Galax, VA, to the late Paul Dobyns Trimble, and Margie Brook (Burris) Trimble.
Betty was a cherished homemaker, and a quiet, private soul who touched the lives of those around her. She devoted her life to caring for her family. Betty was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Newark, DE. Her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her being, guiding her in her relationships and in her unwavering commitment to her family.
Betty was active in family genealogy, passionately uncovering the roots of her family tree. She enjoyed spending countless hours knitting and crocheting, crafting beautiful pieces, and working on puzzles. Hosting family gatherings for the holidays was a special time for Betty, bringing everyone together to celebrate cherished traditions. Her home in Galax, VA was a beloved vacation retreat for her and her husband, William, a place where memories were created with family. Betty will be deeply missed, yet lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Betty is survived by her by sons: Son, Gary Scott Cockerham (wife, Linda), Joe David Cockerham, Christopher Lynn Cockerham (wife, Lourdes), and Michael Brooks Cockerham; grandchildren: Christine Alyse Morris, Hailey Brook Cockerham, and Cole Michael Cockerham.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, William Rex Cockerham, and brother, Barney Paul Trimble.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at R.T. Foard and Jones, 122 W Main St, Newark, DE 19711, where friends and family may begin visiting at 10:00 a.m. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “American Diabetes Association” sent in care of the funeral home.
