Barbara Fooks Redden, 86, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2017. Born on October 22, 1930 in Lewes, DE, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Carleton and Corinne (Goodwin) Fooks.
Barbara was an active member of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church as well as the DAR. She volunteered for several organizations that helped those in need, including as a literacy advocate, teachers aide, and Meals on Wheels where she delivered meals for over 10 years, up until one week prior to her passing. Barbara enjoyed genealogy, was a talented artist, painter, and author of many children’s books and poetry. Her self-published works include Delaware Then and Now and More Delaware Then and Now, both of which were written with the help of her husband and son Joe. Barbara was very proud her poem “Betsy’s Helper” was read on the floor of Congress by Senator Roth. Some of Barbara’s most cherished moments were those spent with her family, friends and pets.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Carol and her husband, Frank; three sons: Robert, John and his wife, Karen, and Joseph; four grandchildren: John, Kimbrook and husband, Bryan, Carrie, and Dawn and husband, Mike; six great-grandchildren: Aidan, Brecklen, Kennedy, Ethan, Christopher, and Cameron; and many close, dear lifelong friends. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Redden.
A service in Barbara’s honor will be held at 11am on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, 10 Old Newark Road, Newark, DE 19713, where friends and family may visit beginning at 10am. A procession to St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery, 122 E. Pine Street, Georgetown, DE 19947, will leave from the church at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made payable to “St. Nicholas Episcopal Church” and sent in care of R.T. Foard and Jones, Inc. 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
