Audrey C. Laws, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at Season’s Hospice at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. She was born on August 14, 1927 in Christiana, DE to the late Olan J., Sr. and Lela G. Leasure Cleaver.
Audrey lived her entire life in the Newark-Christiana area. She attended Christiana Elementary School and graduated from Newark High School in 1945. In 1950, she married Joseph T. Laws, Jr. Starting as a bank teller, Audrey worked her way up to a branch manager in the banking industry, retiring from Mellon Bank in 1982.
Active in her community, she was a Life Member of the Christiana Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, which she joined as a young girl in 1945. She was also a life member of the Pencader Grange #60 for over 65 years, the Newark Senior Center since 1981, and the Christiana Presbyterian Church all her life.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Laws Robinson, of Acworth, GA, Deborah Laws Lester, and her husband, Jaymes, of St. Georges, DE, and Joseph T. Laws III, and his wife, Donna, of Middletown, DE; grandchildren, Casey Robinson, of Kennesaw, GA, Courtney R. Smith and her husband, Brent, of Atlanta, GA, Kelly R. Williams, and her husband, Cameron, of Hershey, PA, J. Scott Lester, of Elkton, MD, S. Craig Lester, of St. Georges, DE, Joseph T. Laws IV, and his wife, Samantha, of Middletown, DE, and Nikki Laws, of Middletown, DE; a brother, O. Jackie Cleaver, Jr. and his wife, Joy; a sister-in-law, Caroline Cleaver; great grandchildren, Joseph Moreno, Melissa Moreno, Bailey Andrade, Cristian Andrade, Angela Andrade, Kayla Andrade, Aiden David Williams, and Aubrey Lily Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Joseph T. Laws. Jr., a son-in-law, David W. Robinson, and three brothers, George Cleaver, Clyde B. Cleaver, and A. Burke Cleaver.
Services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may visit on 6-8PM on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be held at Christiana Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Christiana, DE following the services.
