Alan H. Ferguson, 79, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on August 15, 2017. He was born September 17, 1937 in Holyoke, MA to the late Howard and Nita Ferguson.

Mr. Ferguson retired after 32 years as an engineer for DuPont. He was also in the Coast Guard Reserve for 16 years. Alan enjoyed working with numbers, traveling and round dancing.

Alan is survived by his wife, Virginia Ferguson; son, Douglas Alan Ferguson of Wilmington, DE; daughter, Jennifer Cole and husband Adam of Olympia, WA; step-daughter, Cara Newton and fiance Eddy Gardner of Wilmington, DE; sister, Jane Megginson and husband Richard of Rising Sun, MD; 4 grandsons and 3 nieces.

A visitation for Alan will be held from 6-8pm on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. An additional visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 10-11am followed by a celebration of Alan’s life. Burial will follow at the Head of Christiana Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Brandywine Valley Baptist Church” and sent in care of the funeral home.
